Ingredients
- For the masala
- Coconut oil- 1 tbsp
- Dry Kashmiri red chilies- 5 pieces
- Coriander- 2 tbsp
- Grated dry coconut- ¼ cup
- Chana dal- 1 tbsp
- Urad dal- 1 tbsp
- Cinnamon- 12 mm
Other ingredients
- Rentio tuwar dal- ½ cup
- Coconut oil- 2 tsp
- Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
- Salt to taste
- Rice- 1 cup raw
- Chopped French beans- ¼ cup
- Chopped carrots- ¼ cup
- Chopped potatoes- ½ cup
- Chopped capsicum- ½ cup
- Shallots- ¼ cup
- Drumstick- 1
- Curry leaves- 5 to 7
- Tamarind- 2 tbsp
- Ghee- 1 tbsp
How to make bisi bele bhat?
For the masala
- Heat the oil in a non-stick frypan and all the ingredients which are listed for the masala and saute it on a low flame for 4-5 minutes.
- Once it is cool blend it in a mixer to a fine powder and, keep it aside.
How to proceed
- Wash the rice and soak it at least for 2 hours and keep it aside.
- Take a deep pan and add oil, toor dal, turmeric powder, salt and 6 cups of water, mix it well and cook it on a medium flame for 10-12 minutes.
- Now add French beans, carrots, potatoes, rice, capsicum, shallots, and drumstick, mix it well and cook it on a medium flame for 10-12 minutes till the rice and dal are cooked.
- Add the prepared masala, tamarind pulp, curry leaves, mix gently and cover and cook it on a slow flame for 5 minutes.
- Add the ghee and serve hot.
