Ingredients
For the sambhar
• Brinjal- 2
• Rentio tuwar dal- 1 cup
• Drumstick- 1
• Potato- 1
• Tomato- 1 chopped
• Tamarind- 1 tbsp
• Salt to taste
For the paste
• Coriander seeds- 1 tbsp
• Fenugreek- 1 tbsp
• Rentio tuwar dal- 1 tbsp
• Asafoetida- ½ tbsp
• Turmeric powder- 1 tbsp
• Urad dal- 1 tbsp
• Chana dal- 1 tbsp
For tempering
• Curry leaves- 6
• Asafoetida- ¼ tbsp
• Oil- 1tbsp
Method
For the masala paste
- Roast all the ingredients listed under the masala paste in a non-stick pan for the 4-5 minutes
- Now grind the paste in a blender with the help of water and keep it aside.
How to proceed
- Wash the dal and pressure cook it by adding onion, Brinjal and drumstick, potato and 2 cups of water in it.
- Add tomato, tamarind pulp, sambhar masala paste, salt and 4 cups of water and bring to boil
- For tempering heat the ghee in a fry pan add mustard seeds
- Once mustard started crackle add curry leaves and asafoetida and add it to the sambhar and simmer it for 10 minutes
- Serve hot
