Recipe of khatti meethi toor dal

Ingredients


  • Medium Chopped tomato- 1
  • Green chilies- 2
  • Ginger- 1 tsp
  • Red chili powder- 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder- 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder- ½ tsp
  • Sugar- 1 tsp
  • Rentio toor dal- 1 cup
  • Lemon juice- 2 tbsp
  • Fresh coriander- 4 tbsp

Tempering


  • Ghee- 2 tbsp
  • Fennel seeds- ½ tsp
  • Fenugreek seeds- ½ tsp
  • Mustard seeds- ¾ tsp
  • Whole Dried red chili- 4

How to make khatti meethi toor dal?


  1. Wash the dal and soak it in a bowl with 2 cups of water at least for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Once dal is soaked, take a pressure cooker, add chopped tomato, green chilies, 2 cups of water, and soaked dal and cook it for 3-4 whistles.
  3. Let the pressure of the cooker release on its own.
  4. Once the pressure of the cooker released, open the lid of the cooker.
  5. Now mash the dal with the help of a blender.
  6. Add ginger, salt, sugar, turmeric, chili powder, coriander powder, and 1.5 glass of water in it.
  7. Mix it well and boil it for another 10 minutes on a medium flame.
  8. For tempering, heat ghee in a small pan, add fenugreek seeds, fennel seeds, and mustard seeds. Once they started to crackle add asafoetida and red chilies.
  9. Pour this tempering over the booing dal, add lemon juice and chopped coriander on it.
  10. Cover the pan with the help of lid and simmer it for 5 minutes.
  11. Serve hot with 1 tsp ghee on top.
